This should govern your final selection of file size and TBH unless great detail is needed you can get away with 100 Kb or less eaaaasy. There are some things you need consider: How much detail to you NEED to convey in your imagery ? To place a image here you can upload it onto Dave's server but be mindful of image size as to not hog too much space BUT more importantly IMHO, image size impacts on the speed a page will load especially for those with slow internet connections. So once you're done, you just hit the "Start" button and in a few seconds you have your processed images, at much smaller file sizes. i sometimes also check "auto adjust colors" which makes some images nicer. I keep the use resample function (better quality) almost all the time, it resizes with better quality but a bit slower (more cpu intensive, but you don't care when you convert a bunch of pictures, it's done in seconds anyway). You can force the program to ignore the aspect ratio by unchecking the option under resize (and your images will be distorted) Also under the Resize there's an option you can check to NOT resize images if they're going to be enlarged (so they'll just be re-saved to jpg with the quality setting chosen) Most users have 1920x1080 monitors, so there's no point in setting the long side of the image to more than 1600-1920 pixels, and I think the forum layout would also be borked a bit if you embed very large pictures. This means the program will automatically calculate how big the other dimension should be and maintain aspect ratio of the image.
