I guess one must replace the grease within the 24 month period on brake pins or less (due it now being on the car vs. Brake grease is used to lubricate the brake adjustingscrew, on older model cars. Per their website they state the shelf life of this grease is only 24 months. Sil-glyde is Bk-1, 3,4, 8, 12 which specifies the ozs rated to 425 F. This allows pads to slide and contact the brake rotor as they wear down.

The products used are American Grease Company's sil-glyde SG or BK series or the 3M silicone paste.ģM 08946 is 8 oz but it cost $35 plus. BG Brake Lube is applied to the caliper bracket that holds the brake pad in place. Special high-temperature grease applied to prevent sticking and seizing of brake pads on guide fingers of a sliding carriage. Others use the following pure silicone grease or something similar to it such as silicone paste. The boots are accordian shaped similar to the CV boots and it is at the V bends where the boots get weak. Moreover, I've read that the petroleum in these greases is incompatible with the rubber pin boots since it weakens them. Only lubricants made for this use should be applied. I've used the permatex green/purple high temp brake grease and super white lithium grease and they all get very gummed up to the point that the caliper won't slide and thus wearing out my pads. Brake caliper lubricant is made to withstand the heat caused by braking. I have to replace my brake pads again due to the caliper pins sticking within a year.
