On one hand, we like the push toward minimalist advertising that isn’t obnoxious. Larger entities will have to pay 30% of the additional revenue created by whitelisting the acceptable ads. Smaller outlets (less than 10 million additional ad impressions per month due to participating in Acceptable Ads) can get on the acceptable list for free. It does not, however, filter ads that meet its Acceptable Ads policy. It does a good job, too, filtering out all the annoying ads that infest the web.

Like we mentioned before, Adblock Plus tends to take up more memory to do the same job.

It has a lot going for it- free, open source, free under the GPL, and supports almost every platform (Chrome, Firefox, Android, Opera, IE, Safari, Yandex, Maxthon, Edge). Adblock PlusĪdblock Plus is probably the most popular adblocker out there. You may be better off with another adblocker that’s still under development. The Safari version is no longer under development, sadly. Origin does not support Safari but uBlock does. UBlock Origin is a fork of uBlock after the creators had a disagreement. I would highly recommend uBlock Origin as the faster, more trustworthy adblocker.ĭownload uBlock Origin for Chrome, Firefox, Opera UBlock Origin also offers some useful granular controls right from its control bar that let you toggle custom fonts, strict blocking and cosmetic filtering. If you’re on a slow work PC, then it’s a different story.

Granted, this might not be as much of an issue if you’re on a good PC and have 8 GB of RAM or something. I had the same issue sporadically in uBlock for Safari. From the creator of uBlock Origin: “So given uBlock did much better CPU-wise than ABP in its content script for such a bloated web site means it was a worst-case scenario for ♛lock, and yet it did its job of hiding elements between 2 and 3 times faster.” The color indicators on the left side of that panel don't always work but they're just for user reference uBO was blocking per the rule-set. However, when both items were enabled, they've worked. The toggle icons for cosmetic filtering and remote fonts aren't reporting the number of items available to block. I was able to Import from file and Commit what appears to be my complete Fx Dynamic filtering rules.Įach 3rd-party and native filter that I selected updated (manually, I don't use Auto) without issue.Īt the pop-down from the uBlock Origin (uBO) icon in Safari's toolbar : Just because, I tried to import my Fx files using Restore from file it didn't completely work. The Privacy section is greyed out with the first two options selected. I run as an advanced user with 3rd-party scripts and frames globally blocked. So far, so good considering it's still at alpha.
